Geo W.Smith>Hamilton>Hillsborough
I am searching for ANY information on the ancestors or descendants of George W. Smith, bca. 1803 SC, d. after 1870(his will probated 1873 Hillsborough Co. FL) and his wife, Caroline, bca.1812 GA. SOME of their children were:
1.Lydia Ann, b.22 April 1836, d.15 June 1901, m1.17 March 1853 Irwin Co., GA. Gabriel J. McClelland m2. Allen Douglas
2.Caroline, bca.1841 Ga.
3.Phebe Ann, bc.1849 FL.
George W. and Caroline probably had other children, and one may have been Baxter M. Smith, bca. 1835 Hamilton Co., FL.,who served in the 3rd Seminole War.
Baxter M. Smith was appointed the gaurdain of George W. McClelland (the s/o of Lydia Ann ) 11 July 1860 Hillsborough Co., FL. after Gabriel McClelland's death during the 3rd. Seminole
There was also another child, John M. Smith (bca.1866 FL.) living in the home of George W. and Caroline Smith in 1870 Hillsborough Co., FL. who was probably a grandchild.
Other suspected descendants or relations are T.B. Smith, bca.1852 GA, who had the following children:
George W. Smith (bca. 1875GA probably m. Mary Ann Widdon, may have lived in Polk Co.)
S.M. Smith (bca. 1877GA)
Allen Smith (bca 1879 GA)
Bessie Smith (bca. 1881GA)
Tommey Smith (bca.1882 FL)
Georgia Smith (bca.1884 FL)
W. M. Smith (bca.1884 FL.)
I also suspect some of these Smiths may have drifted into Hardee (Mantee) Co., FL or Polk Co., FL. ANY information concerning this family would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and you may e-mail me direct or post here
