Kelley's in Wilton, Muscatine County, Iowa
Here is what I have found about my Kelley ancestors. If anyone can add to my information, that'd be great.Frank James Kelley is my second great-grandfather.He was one of six children born to James W. Kelley and Mrs. Jane A. Kelley.
The following is from the 1880 United States Census of Wilton, Muscatine County, Iowa:
The Household of FJK's Father
-Head of household: James W. Kelley born about 1827 in Ohio...other less reliable sources say Ireland...I will double check (he was the City Marcial)
-Wife: Mrs. Jane A. Kelley born about 1827 in England
List of Children at Home (4):
-Frank James Kelley born December 07, 1858 in Ottawa, Illinois(a telegraph operator)
-Nancy J. Kelley born about 1862 in Iowa
-Jenny M. Kelley born about 1864 in Iowa
-Ada C. Kelley born about 1868 in Iowa
The Household of Alice A. Kelley (sister of FJK)
-Head of household: Henry C. Carter born about 1843 in Missouri
-Wife: Mrs. Alice A. Carter born about 1853 in Ottawa, Illinois
List of Children at Home (1):
James C. Carter born about 1879 in Iowa
***1st NOTE:My guess as to why the twin sons of Alice, Frank and Clay, are not listed is because they were not born as of 1880.
***2nd NOTE:There are two possible reasons why I could not find FJK's brother, George...The first possible reason I didn't find him is that he is older than FJK and is out of the house. If that is the case I have no idea where he was living in 1880.Alice and FJK were both born in Ottawa, Illinois. My reasoning is that James W. Kelley and his wife lived in Ottawa, Illinois, but moved to Wilton, Iowa at some point between 1858 and 1862.Frank was their last child to be born in Illinois, but George may have been too.
A second possible (but less likely) reason I did not find George on the 1880 census is that he may not have been born in 1880.He may have been born after that.I doubt this because his parents were already in their early fifties in 1880, but it is possible.
If anyone can help me in my search for information about Frank James Kelley and his family, I'd really appreaciate it.
