I totally agree. I do joke around because that is in my nature but in truth theres a lot to be gained by researching and learning all of this. As I mentioned, my monther and her sisters often felt a bit lost and without much knowledge about their families so for me this has been sort of like a gift to them, an opportunity for us to learn more about why our ancestors were the way they were, and honor them, and honor our family by sharing this genealogy experience. My mother and her sisters have each thanked me recently for my efforts and for allowing them some insight into their roots!
That said, I am the only one whos obsessed with it and have taken it on as my own project but with a baby and being in school (online) at the moment keeping up with this search hasnt been as easy as you'd think :)
Wow. So Jesse Harper 1805 is there but no Mariam? There is a document on Ancestry that talks about the two of them, for the sake of keeping it straight I usually refer to them as "kissing cousins" since there were several Jesse and Mariams in the family. (theres those jokes I was referring to!) It tells some of their and their grandfather John (the rev war soldier) stories and that is really the only info I have on the family before JMH/JRH. Somewhere my aunt had found an obituary I think for Mariam but I cant recall for sure...some Iowa newspaper I'd have to look at the time she died to try and find it...
