I am seeking the descendants of John P. Dofflemyer, born in 1848, from Wapallo Iowa.In the 1860 census, John was 12 living with his family. His father Noah, b. 1818, mother Lucinda b. 1823,siblings; Francis M. b.1844, William A. b.1845, James A. 1855 and Henry C. b.1860.In the 1880 Census, John is now 22 years old and still listed as living at home with his family in Wapallo Iowa.
I am seeking a marriage record for John P Dofflemyer and Nellie. I do not know Nellie's maiden name. In 1881, they had a daughter my great grandmother Alta Johnny Dofflemyer born, August 24, 1881 in Witchita, Kansas.
I found listed in the Witchita Kansas Death Index; Lucinda Dofflemyer passed away in 1889. I have not found any other record of the rest of the family.
I believe John P. Dofflemyer died, but I do not have a date of death, I have found in the census and application for a Military Head Stone for him as well I have found him listed Sleeping Heroes: The Impact of Civil War Veterans on Kansas Communities, John P. Dofflemyer, Co. D, 36th Iowa Infantry [Union], Highland Cemetery (Wichita, Sedgwick Co.)
I also found Nellie Dofflemyer married to J.G. Smith at a later date in Kansas.
I have a photo of a hand drawn picture of John P. Dofflemyer, with a handwritten note on it saying; this is my father John P Dofflemyer I am his daughter Alta Dofflemyer now Alta Jessee; please give it to my daughter Gladys
If you are a descendant of John P. Dofflemyer or his wife Nellie or have information on their marriage, I would very much like to exchange information and photos.Thank you
