I am doing some research on the old Kootenia county Cemetery also known as Paupers cemetery. It was set aside by the county in 1937 to bury the poor, and was in use until 1943. There are nearly 50 people interned there during those six years.
I was intrigued by this cemetery the moment I moved here. Last spring I visited the cemetery with my children and took photos. Almost all of the graves are only marked with a white cross. Only a few have a name. Though we know who is buried there we don't know where all of them are buried.
I have always wanted to do research on the people buried there. Who knows maybe I'll be able to find enough for a series of articles on my blog. I have been able to find a handful of them in the census records. Though that tells me a little, it still doesn't tell me much about the lives of the people buried there.
