I am looking for information on a lost ancestor.. Shelby Griffith civil war veteran with the 35th Illinois Infantry. Married to Evaline Gregg daughter of Roda and David Gregg. moved to Washington Territory on or before 1884. Last seen as a widower on the 1900 census living next door to Charles Gregg in Latah co ID.I have not checked the 1910 census yet. His grave was listed in Viola Cemetery but only the civil war marker listed no death date.. no wife or children listed in cemetery but he is buried in Gregg family plot.. Iwould be most grateful if someone wouldbe able to help me solve the mystery of his death date , obit or anything about who he is. Are there death records for 1900 in Idaho? We know he is kin to our family but just how he fits in would be solved if we knew who his parents are.. Civil War records say he was 5' 10" auburn hair, grey eyes, and born in Warren TN. born abt 1833 0r 34.He was living with my line of Griffiths from 1850 on in Effigham co IL. He was listed on probate record dispute as an heir to my ggggrandmother's estate listing a hundred dollars still due on the debts of the estate, four years after the estate personal items sold. The mystery is that he was not listed in her will as a son or heir..but I assume that he did continue to live with the family and possibly was included as one who needed to help come up with the debt owed. The same as Irvan Griffith who was also on the 1850 census and a civil war vet, also married a Gregg. I think they were brothers who married sisters.. but somehow Shelby ended up out here in Idaho..They were accepted as heirs by the children of Benjamin and Mary Griffith as heirs so they must be related but how? thanks for ANY and all help.
