You could send a request to the Marion County Courthouse for a copy of George W's birth certificate to see if the birthdate matches.
If this is the right family, you can find both parents on findagrave. They are buried in the Patoka Cem., Marion Co. Leatha Bowen died May 16, 1948, and George Washington Bowen died June 20, 1972.George Washington Bowen's draft card for WW I lists his date of birth as Sept 14, 1891 and says he is supporting a wife and 3 children. It also states that he has red hair and blue eyes.
George Washington Bowen is apparently the son of John Charles and Mary Belcher Bowen, according to the 1900 census for Marion County. They are also on findagrave, and can be found in many census listings, the IL Death Index, etc. Before gathering their data though I would want to verify that this is the right family by obtaining George Wesley's birth certificate. You should also be able to find George Washington Bowen's obituary, which should mention a son George.
