I've been trying to find records of the Raleys in Clay County for the past few months. The many names are beginning to fall into place for me, but I'm not clear about every family. If you are interested, I'd like to compare notes.
The names you listed in your last message suggest to me that you are interested in the older John Raley who came to Clay Co. about 1839.He was reportedly married to Catherine Lewis, but I have been unable to find their marriage record.Have you found it, or have any leads?
Also, I suspect that William Raley, who married a Shepherd in 1846 (I believe), was a son of John and Catherine. But, I have no direct evidence that this is true. There was a son in John Raley's home in 1840 census about the right age.Do you know who William Raley's father was?
I remember seeing a statement once (I believe it was one of yours, but am not sure) that John Raley was married twice.Do you have any information about his first marriage?I can't even find one marriage for him.
I have concluded that the John Raley who died in 1848 was John Raley, Jr.Do you know if he was a son of John Raley, Sr. (who was still alive in 1850 census)? The John Raley, Jr. who died in 1848 also had a son named John.
I suspect that John Raley (d. 1848) was recorded one OR MORE times as John Riley.Do you agree? One case-- IL marriage record. And, there are a couple other records of a John Riley about this time (1838-1840).
Do you know the father of James Raley who came to Clay Co. about 1839?Could it have been John, Sr.?Or is there some way of knowing it was someone else?
I've tried to suggest most of the information I have at this point in time and to ask the things I am not clear about.Would like to compare with your thoughts about the family.
