My name is Gale Red, and I am the Commander of the Illinois Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. We are a heritage-based association like the Daughters of the American Revolution. One of our main goals is to learn more about our historical past and of the men and women who fought for the cause of Southern Independence. As one means of doing that, we have undertaken to find all the known gravesites of Confederate veterans who served during the awful War Between the States. We are in the process of creating a state listing of all the known graves of Confederate veterans in the state. As Commander of the Illinois Division,I have taken on the responsibility to research and collect the information from our state of Illinois.I hope you may be able to assist me in this endeavor.
I have spent many hours reading the microfilm produce by the State that was a survey of all graves of military veterans of all conflicts the U.S. engaged in.That survey was produced in 1956 and is called The Honor Roll of Illinois Military Veterans. From that listing, I have extracted individuals identified as having served I the Confederate military.
For Douglas County, I have found only a few Confederate veterans so far.

If you know of any others, we would be very interested to know why they settled in your county.I am hoping you may be able to help me find information on any Confederate veterans buried in your county, including perhaps obituary notices, newspaper articles or personal information on them.If you know of any living descendents of these persons and can supply their names and addresses, I would be most grateful.I will be willing, of course, to pay for the expenses involved in providing the requested information.
I hope to hear from you in the near future.Thank you in advance.
