Commodore Chancey Stafford known as C.C. was born June 9, 1883 and died October 18, 1955. He spent most of his life in Hunter TWP where he farmed and served as Township Road Commissioner for 16 years. He was responsible for getting many township roads graveled for the first time and for, during the Depression, building 3 concrete bridges with the aid of WPA funds. Commodore was one of 8 children of John and Minerva Kise Stafford. His brothers were Ulysses and Ben and his sisters were Sarah, Onolida, (twins) Hester and Rebecca, and Marie. In 1915 he was married to Mary Elizabeth Henning. Two children were born of this union: Ruth Hellen (Mrs. Robert Hale) of Umatilla, Florida and Paul Joseph of Paris.
