My great-great grandfather DAVID J. CODER (born 1812 Luzerne County, PA) married (MARY*) ELIZABETH FAULKNER(born 1819 Hamilton County, OH) in Mason County, IL, on 22 April 1841. (*In later records she went only by Elizabeth.)
David's brother ELISHA B. CODER (born 1820 PA) married ELIZA WILLARD FAULKNER (born 1822 IL or IN) on 6 January 1845 in Mason County, IL.
David's father Rev. WILLIAM J. CODER (born about 1785) was a neighbor to ROBERT FAULKNER and THOMAS R. FAULKNER in Mason County. I believe MARY ELIZABETH was Robert's daughter and ELIZA was Thomas' daughter.
On 21 April 1841 in Mason County a ROBERT FAULKNER (born 1817) married SARAH ANN HOWELL (born 1817). The wedding was officiated by Rev WILLIAM J. CODER. Robert and Elizabeth named 2 of their children MARY ELIZABETH FAULKNER (born 1850) and DAVID CODER FAULKNER (born 1853). I believe this Robert was MARY ELIZABETH FAULKNER CODER's brother.
SAMUEL NATHAN CODER (born 1854), son of ELISHA B. CODER and ELIZA WILLARD FAULKNER married PAULINE O. FAULKNER (born 1860).
A ROBERT CODER (born 1821 or 1822 in Cicero, Hamilton County), married a PAULINE CODER (born about 1825). I have no further information on this couple and do not know if or how Pauline relates to my line.
DAVID J. CODER and ELIZABETH FAULKNER CODER had 4 children: HARRISON CODER (born 1841 or 1842, IL, died Civil War), ROBERT CODER (born 1845, IL, died Civil War), OLIVER WILLIAM CODER (born 1848, IN), and HARRIET ELIZABETH CODER (born 1850, IN). They moved from Mason County, IL, to Dearborn and Ripley Counties, IN, then Worth and Gentry Counties, MO. ELIZABETH FAULKNER CODER died in Worth County, MO, 8 March 1858. David then married ELIZA JANE WATKINS and had 2 additional children, one being my great-grandfather GEORGE BARTON CODER.
My Coders came to Mason County, IL, around 1837 from north central PA (Northumberland, Luzerne, Columbia Counties). There was a Robert Faulkner in that part of PA in the late 1700s and early 1800s, the same time as my Coders. I wonder if there is an early connection between the families. They seem to have moved to the same places and intermarried. When I'm lacking a surname in my Coder line I often joke "It's probably another Faulkner."
