I was looking at my notes for my gggrandfather, Allen S. and saw a lot of "unknown"s. I'm sure there are other decendents out there who can help me fill in the blanks [or correct errors]. Any info on Chloe? Dean
Allen SHELDON, Son of Epaphras SHELDON and Hannah LYMAN was born in Torrington Conn. in 1786. He went with his parents to Smithville, Chenango, New York in 1798. Before 1807 he was in Virgil, Cortland, New York [a mitary township where land was given to veterans of the revolution]. By 1810 he was in Steuben Co., New York. He migrated in 1840 to McHenry Co. ILL where he became a prosperous farmer. His father was a Major in the Rev. War and his grandfather a Col. in the Conn. mlitia during the same war. He served in the war of 1812 and at least 4 of his sons were in the Civil War.

No. 4 Erastus Lyman Sheldon. Born August 17, 1822, Steuben County, New York. Died Jan. 4, 1911, Hixton, Wisconsin.
No. 5. Samuel A Sheldon. Born 1830. Lived at Irving, Wisconsin in 1880's, was a physician and served four years as a surgeon of the 26th Illinois Volunteer infantry in the Civil War. Died unknown,
No. 6 William Henry Sheldon. Born 1833, in Steuben Co., NY. In Clinton, Missouri in 1885, was first lieutenant of Co. I, 8th regiment, Ill. cavalry; died unknown, married unknown unknown.
No. 7. Franklin H. Sheldon. Born Feb. 2, 1835, Steuben County, New York. enlisted in Co. I, eighth Ill. volunteer cavalry and served one year. Died unknown. Married Adelia French, Sept. 9, 1868. Frank and Adelia had two children, Walter R. and Archie F.. Mr. Sheldon was a member of the Masonic fraternity. Frank was a farmer in section 2, Coral Township.
No. 8. Flavel L. Sheldon was born in Steuben County, New York, December 10, 1837 [same year and county as Elisha Egelston**]. In 1840 his parents moved to McHenry County, ILL where his father died in 1870, age 83 years, and his mother in 1876 aged 82 years. Flavel enlisted in the eighth Ill. volunteer cavalry and served one year. He was married December 10, 1861, to Hattie R. Robbe, daughter of W.S. Robbe who settled in McHenry County in 1837. They had two adopted children; Logan S. and Katie. He was a member of Orion Lodge, No. 358 and also of union Lodge No. 302 I. G.O.T.. And outpost 169, G.A.R.
