John and Margaret were married in Pike Co., MISSOURI in 1847 and shortly thereafter moved to Pike Co., IL.From 1850-1870 he owned land and farmed it with the help of his many children.Sometime between 1870 and 1880, he became a stone mason...interesting.
Anyway...I followed the family forward to the 1880 census and noted that his sister and brother were living with his family.I then tracked back the sister and brother to the 1850 census and found that they were living with their parents, Lewis and Martha Morris both from North Carolina.I then compared the birthplaces indicated on the census years and saw that both Thomas and John were born in KY, but their sister Mary was born in Indiana, 1832.
I used the 1830 census to locate the family in Rush, Indiana.I checked all the other Lewis Morris' in North Carolina and Kentucky and did NOT find one that fit the profile of Lewis' family as well as the Rush, Indiana did.I also checked the 1820 census and was unable to find the family.I suspect, they were probably on the move when the census was taken.
I did locate the family in Pike Co., Peno, Missouri in 1840 under the name Lewis Morriss living right next door to the Robert Cunningham family.
This should give you a good start in finding out more about your Morris ancestors.I hope you find the information helpful and I truly wish you the very best of luck with your continued research.
