Wesley Gochenour Dies Unexpectedly former Freeport Man Passes away Last Night at De Kalb
"News has been received her of the death of Wesley Gouchenour, brother of Mrs. L.A. Frisbie, 38 Pine Street. His death was very sudden and he passed away last night at his home in De Kalb, where he lived since his removal from Freeport some fifteen years ago. He was a conductor in the employ of the Northwestern road and for year had been on a run between De Kalb and Clinton, Iowa.
He was a son of the late John Gochenour, one of the pioneer farmers of this county, and born in Lancaster Twp Oct 1854. Later the family removed to a farm near Florence Station and after reaching manhood Wesley came to Freeport and held a position for a number of years with the old Bartlett Hardward company, and when that company went out of business he went to work for the Northwestern railroad and later located in De Kalb. He was an honest and conscientious citizen; and earnest Christian and a devoted husband and father. He will be kindly remembered by a host of good friends in Freeport and vicinity.
Mr. Gochenour is survived by his widow, whose maiden name was Mallory, also a pioneer family of this county, and four children---Arthur of Sycamore; Mr. John Swanton, Rockford, Mr. Edward Morgan, Morgan Park; and Mrs. Earl Yeager, De Kalb. His surviving sisters are Mrs. Frisbie, of Freeport, Mrs. McCoy of Polo; Mrs. French of Iowa and another sister, Mrs. Seymour, who engaged in missionary work in China. (I believe I have a picture of her.) The funeral will be held from the family residence in De Kalb, Thursday." The Freeport Journal 26 Mar 1918
Note: I also have his wedding story.
