I am interested in information about James "Old Beaver" Ratcliff who came to Carmi, White Co. Illinois in 1818. He was born in Virginia. Was a county clerk, postmaser, circuit clerck. He owned the Ratcliff Inn.Susposedly his bible was in the Historical Society of Carmi, but I have no way to visit to check as I live in England.Bible may still exist. Also, there was to have been a stone in the Carmi Cemetery which listed his brothers and sisters.
Children: Mary B. D. Ratcliff who married Senator John (or possibly James) M. Robinson.John Robinson b. 1794 in Scott Co KY came to Carmi in 1818.Held various offices. They had at least one grandaughter named Miss Mary Jane Stewart.Do not know names of any children.
Nancy Jane Ratcliff who married Edwin B. Webb. They had at least one daughter, Patty Webb, who married Frank E. Hay owner of the Hay and Webb Bank.
May be more children. Any information would be great.I would like to learn more about where James Ratcliff came from and possibly names of Siblings/parents.
