Hello, I am researching the Blackford, Mobley, Short surnames in the White County, IL area. Possibly Dixon from IL as well as Miller families. Unsure about Kinney being from IL. My great grandmother was Laura Jane Blackford. She was the daughter of Charles Francis Blackford and Nancy Dolson(or Dotson)She was born in 1854, in White County IL. Her first marriage was to Charles Mobley Aug, 10, 1870 They had 2 sons, Noah and George. Her second marriage was to Edward Dixon. They had a son named Edward, also. During this time, her father ( Charles M. Blackford) moved to Woodruff county, AR, where he remarried to a Caroline Bishop. They had a daughter, Mary and son, Joe. He married a Emma Warren in 1884 later, while in Woodruff County, AR. then, in Jackson County AR. he married Dorinda Dowden Meantime, while in IL, Laura Jane has remarried to a "Short" and assuming he is from White County, possibly from Grayville area, as the name of the town was known as 'Shortville' at one time. During the span between the Short Marriage and then, to Charles Kinney, in Layton, AR., she had my grandmother, Francis Isabelle, born 1887 in IL. I don't know where in IL. BUT, AR. 1900 census has her as age 13 and married. But, her name is 'Short' in the census, so was she married to a Short? or born as Short? Also, Laura's father is living in the house with them, in the 1900 census, (no wife listed!) I know there must still be families in White County or surrounding areas by these names. If you can give me a clue, I would appreciate it.
