CARMI TOWNSHIP HOSPITAL WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1952. Before that I think a couple of doctors had an infirmary in a home, and of course, there was the county nursing home which was built in 1914. Before that there was a county poor farm, but the records of that or even the county home are sketchy or unavailable. As the other lady mentioned, many people did not have death certificates before 1910, and it was common for country peoples death to go unrecorded to the 1930s. Before Carmi had a hospital people either went to Evansville or St. Louis or received care at home.
