Yes, a cousin who lives in Decatur visited the courthouse in DeWitt and read the marriages.Nothing other than the Anna Mable Herman marriage to William Townsend Moore.
She did miss the fact that Anna Herman was on the city directory (Clintonia) 1903.The one who found her said she didn't search any further.
But Cousin Terri did a lot of the courthouse research and found some wills and obits. She had some family problems and hasn't done any research in the last 5 years, so I can't call on her now.
The child "Babe" Herman apparently was born in De Witt Co.
That is where her parents married.
Quote from my notes:
On her marriage license application, Anna listed her mother as Susan Ware, [sic].Book D, page 206, number 2681, Clinton, DeWitt Co., IL
These are all my notes on Anna.
!Xeroxed page, Clinton, DeWitt County, IL book.Page 40."Anna Moore, Minor Heir of Susan Moore, dec'd;George W. MOORE, Guardian, Real Estate:Lots in the city of Clinton, Ill., value $2200,, subject to Dower interest of George W. MOORE, surviving husband of Susan MOORE deceased.Filed, 25 Sep., 1890."Pg 107 in original court house records, DeWitt Co., IL, Lots H8 in Block 7 of the original ciy, $2200.00 value with $125.00 probably yearly rental.

John listed his father's name as "Micheal." [sic]
!Married by W. J. Tull, clergyman, witnesses M. E. Vaudeyook and Rona Milles.
!Micrfilmed copy of wedding announcement.Marriage ceremony performed by Rev. W. J. Tull.Clinton, DeWitt Co., IL.Moved to temporary home in Woodford Co., IL after marriage.Groom owned farm in Kansas.[Must have been in Kansas Twp., Woodford Co., ILAnd I just saw that the couple did go to Woodford Co. after marriage so I bet "Babe" was born there. This added Jan. 2007.]
!Anna received land from her mother's estate. It was Lot H8 in Block 7 of the orginial city of Clinton.(Probate Record, p. 107, Clinton, DeWitt Co., IL court records.)Her father George received the dower's share.
!1900 Clinton, DeWill Co., IL federal census, Anna Herman was listed as a widow. She was a servant at the Magall Hotel and could read, write, and speak English."Babe" Herman was living with her grandparents, George and Carrie Moore.
1900, Kansas Twp., Woodford Co., IL.Michael Herman lived alone.Widower.Immigrated 1854.
By 1900, Belle Herman was dead so Anna couldn't have left her child with a single man, the father-in-law, so she must have left her with her father and step mother through necessity. As you pointed out, Carrie's personality was such that I imagine as soon as George died, she sent the child to live with her mother. And mother may have moved to be with her father-in-law or brother-in-law.
I can't travel, but later in the spring I can spend some time at the LDS and see what film I can rent.
BTW, "Maggie" was the eldest sister of George Washington Moore (MOON in 1880 census index of Clinton) and almost every one of her siblings named a child for her.
You have stimulated my thinking.Thank you so much, Barbara.
