Vicky, it is believed that the Elizabeth Burk b. @1812 in KY, who married True Parker was the daughter of Joshua Burk the son of Henry Burk. I do not have absolute proof, but there may be something in Joshua's estate papers if someone could search them. Joshua died after the 1850 census, he is listed as 68 years of age.Joshua and Katherine had the following children listed on the 1830 Rush Co. IN Census: 1 male 5-9; 1 male 15-19; 2 males 20-29 and 1 male 50-59; 1 female 0-5; 1 female 10-14; 1 female 15-19; 1 female 20-29 and 1 female 50-59.I did not find them in the 1840 Census, but in the 1850 Census, Decatur Co, IN, Marion Twp, daughter, Consander Brancum is living with Joshua with two of her children, so Katherine was deceased by then.I am fairly certain that Elzy Burk, b. @1797, VA (married Lavina Parker) and Hansbury Burk, b. @1802, VA (married Melinda Ginn) were sons of Joshua. Hansbury is my husband's family.
The following information came from a 29 page manuscript in the Indiana State Library, dated January 14, 1958.Written on the side of this manuscript is "D.A.R. Lone Tree Ch. Greensburg, in memory of James Wirt."
Henry Burk, son of Thomas Burk (b. 1736 Augusta Co. Va) and Cleary Fleming (b. 1736 Augusta Co. VA) was born in Augusta Co. VA August 8, 1758, died in Decatur Co. IN May 1840.Henry married 1) Unknown McCormick, dau of Joshua McCormick and had Joshua Burk, born Feb. 26, 1784.Henry Burk married 2) Jan 1, 1788, by Rev. Thomas Woolsey, Mary McKinney or McKenna (born VA July 7, 1768, died June 24, 1844, burial place unknown, had a sister Margaret) Henry and Mary moved to Russell co. VA and had the following children:Thomas, b. Sept 8, 1789; John, b. Apr 8, 1791; Henry, b. Jan 6, 1793; McKinney, b. Jan 16, 1795, Annie, b. Sept 28, 1796; Patience, b. Oct. 7, 1798; Jane, b. July 17, 1800; Elizabeth, b. Oct. 19, 1803; Archa, b. June 25, 1806 and George b. July 8 __?These births came from the Archa Burk Bible in possession of Mary Williams Flora, IL (1950's)
They left Russell Co. Va 1806-07 to an area called Sinking Valley, Pulaski Co., KY.The following children grew up in KY:Joshua, married Katherine; John married Oct 3, 1816 Susannah Smith; Henry Oct 3, 1816 married Elizabeth Randolph; McKinney married Oct 7, 1818 Polly Moderell; Patience married 1825 Presby Morris; Jane married June 26, 1818 Benjamin Beard and George married Sept. 23, 1828 Ellender moderell.McKinney Burk died June 7, 1829 in Pulaski Co. KY.
Joshua Burk was in Rush Co, IN in 1830. His father, Henry was still in Pulaski Co. KY on 1830 census. Henry came to Indiana before the 1840 census.
The Henry Burk Jr. who married Elizabeth Randolph is buried on Alfred Duffy Farm, Sec. 17, Twp 10 R 10, Washington Twp, SE of Greensburg, Indiana.
"The Irish Burks of Colonial Virginia and New River," Patricia Givens Johnson, 1992, Walpa Publishing, 264 pages, is in the Fort Wayne Library.
