My father was born in Angola, IN in 1896. He had siblings who were older and would have attended Elkhart County schools from 1900 to about 1905. In 1900, they lived at Vistula. I have been in the former one room schoolhouse in that village, but I don't think it is that old. Would there have been another school on the same land? And where would students have attended from 1900-1905 if they lived in Elkhart? Daddy said they lived on Pratt Street, right in the center of town, which is (I think) called Marion now. His father was one of the 5 men who were injured in the collapse of the dam in 1905. The students would have been the children of George Washington Everett and Martha Elizabeth (Hammel) Everett, born 1885-1900: Emily Diane Everett (Emma); George Harrison Everett (Harry); Josephine Everett (Jo); William McKinley Everett (my father, Will, Bill, or most commonly known as an adult as Mack); Benjamin Hobart Everett (Ben); and Helen Everett. They had cousins, also in Elkhart. Is there a way to find these records?
