Thanks for the Christmas present... responding to my request for cousins descending from Abram West. In 2008 during the summer we went to Amo, IN in Hendricks County where Abram & Sina raised their family. The purpose was to make contact with some of Abram's descendants. We even made arrangements for 2 weeks later to meet with the last Secretary for the Abram West Reunion, but when we got to the area and called, her daughter said they were leaving and that they did not have time to meet us and asked us not to call back that her mother was being put into a nursing home! Needless to say after 3 hours driving up there that was a disappointment, but we spent some time in the Guildford Twp. Library and found quite a bit of information that I did not have.
Which of Abram's children does your husband (my cousin) descend? The 80 acre deed from Crawfordsville is interesting.
Besides attempting to learn more about Abram West family, my main purpose is an attempt to find a male West from this line willing to take a simple y-DNA test. Thus far we have 14 West males that have matching y-DNA results. We do not have anyone from the Ignatius West line to test yet. We have several from the Thomas West line (Ignatius' brother) and we believe at least one or two other brothers. It has to be a direct blood descendant with the last name of WEST.
I have been doing research on our family for over 50 years and active in the Sons of the American Revolution as a descendant of Thomas West, Jr. I have been active in the Tri-State Genealogical Society for over 30 years... currently serving as President. I have given presentations on y-DNA genealogical testing and published a brief non-techinical discussion called "Y-DNA?" to encourage people to use DNA as another tool to research their family histories.
