Robert-- I'll be sending you information on the Slavens family by email.
Everyone else-- I've gradually been collecting additional tidbits of information on the family. Some additonal information/corrections to my original posts in January:
James Slavens's first wife was Mary "Polly" Davis. They were married May 10, 1829(?) in Bath Co., KY and came to Hendricks Co. shortly afterwards. Mary apparently was the daughter of Enoch Davis, and a sister to several of the Davises in the 1850 census and in the county history book excerpts on the Hendricks Co. web site.
Their oldest son's name was Harvey and not Henry, despite the 1850 census enumerator's wonderful handwriting. Harvey, Willis, and Milton all enlisted in the 51st Indiana Infantry in Dec. 1861; Willis and Milton were discharged for disability in June 1862 but Harvey died in Nashville the same year.
Mary (Davis) Slavens died ca. 1844, and James married Margaret Crane in 1846. James died ca. 1851. Willis, Milton, and Jesse spent several years (ca. 1846-48 anyway) with their uncle Charles M. Davis in Jasper Co., IA
Still seeking more information on the family, especially James Slavens's birthdate, birthplace, and parents, what happened to Margaret and William after James's death, etc. Also interested in corrections or confirmation of any of the above.
