I am familiar with your dilemma. I too am faced with very little information to go on. Below is my lineage. The spelling of the name changed over time. Generation #1 is the families oral tradition, thus is subject to error. Generation #2 - middle name of Henry is also oral tradition, but middle initial "H." is correct.
1-John William MacIntyre, b. Scotland -m- Jenny Stevenson, b. Ireland; Married after arrival in America, came on same ship. No dates. No places. 2-William Henry McEntire, b. Indiana; No date. No place. -m- Abt 1870 in White County, IL, Hannah Vanderver Rice, d/o Ephraim and Hannah Vanderver Rice. 3-John William McEntire, b. 1871, Phillipstown, White Co., IL. Never married. 3-Charles Kelly McEntire, b. 1875, Phillipstown, White Co., IL; d. 1937 Jackson Co., IL -m-(First) "Dolly" surname unknown. No divorce. No children. -m-(Second)in 1910, in Pinckneyville, Perry Co., IL, Anna Mariah Jacobs, b. 1879 Jackson Co., IL; d. 1976, Jackson Co., IL. 4-Earl Lester McEntire. -5-Living descendants. 4-Charles Eugene McEntire. -5-Living descendants. 4-Anna Ruth McEntire. -5-Living descendants.
Generation #2-William Henry could have had another family elsewhere is Indiana, Illinois, or Kentucky or elsewhere as he "walked away from" his marriage to Hannah Vandever Rice as she was too hard to live with. His son, Charles Kelly never knew his father until he was 19 years of age when they met about the year 1894, and only saw him that one time that he remembered.
This family never talked much about family at all.
Educated guess as to family connections: There was a great migration of families from about 1860-1880 to Phillipstown, White Co., IL from the Salt Creek area in the vicinity of Jackson and surrounding counties in Indiana.
I have located a McIntyre family from that area, but they have no relatives living and they do not know the family history except that many of that clan migrated to Oregon. The person I spoke via phone some years ago was a William McIntyre who married a Martha Short of Seymour or Brownstown, Jackson County, Indiana.
