This is a little long, but I am really in need of help. I am providing as many details as I can in hopes that someone may recognize my family. Thanks!
My GGMother was Marguerite Andrews. She and her 1st husband, Winfield Hugh Kennedy, eloped and were married 5/27/1916 in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. They had 2 daughters and a son - Doris Belle, Barbra Jeanne, and Donald Alan Kennedy. Donald died in a freak boating accident during WWII, leaving behind a pregnant wife named Lucy ? Doris married Paul Martin Quist. They had 3 children. Lastly, my grandmother, Barbra, married Louis William Tordella, and they had 3 children.
Marguerite and Winfield were divorced when their children were very young.
Marguerite eventually remarried the widower in the house behind hers. He was Ernest Maurice Keeper.
Marguerite was a schoolteacher in Spokane and/or Yakima Washington.
Per my G-Ma, Marguerite's parents names were Bert and Lula (Lulu?) Andrews. I believe that Lula's maiden name is Shockley.
A Bert Andrews and "Lola Shackley" (Note the spelling is different here.) appear on a B.C. for an unamed baby Andrews in Madison Co. Indiana. The baby's birth date and my G-GMa's are the same, August 6, 1897. I intend to see if a copy is available, as this could be a typo, hard to read, or not them at all...)
Bert and Lula appear, with Marguerite and a son named Lamar, in the 1900 Census. They resided in Indiana and are listed as having ALL been born in same.
Bert, Lula, and Lamar appear in the 1920 Census together. They resided in East Spokane Washington at this time. However, Bert is listed as having been born in Ohio, not Indiana, on this Census. (Census taker error?)
Marguerite, Winfield and their 2 daughters appear in the 1920 Census in Othello, Washington. (About 110 miles from her family in Spokane, and assuming his famly was still in Coeur D'Alene about 145 miles from his, per MapQuest.Com.) She lists her father as having been born in Indiana.
Now the confusing part!
Marguerite turned up in a family tree for Decendants of "Denizen or Denison Andrews" with the same birth date as above AND same locale. However, her parents are listed as LAWRENCE Andrews and Lula Shockley. This is the first time I have run across the name Lawrence. I am inclined to believe that Lawrence and Bert may be one and the same.
Here's why: The "Denizen or Denison" family tree lists Lawrence as being born in Jay Co. Indiana. He was married to a Lula E. Shockley in July 1896. HE died in Spokane Washington. She died in Yakima Washington. Both places that the family lived in per my G-Ma.
Bert and Lula are listed in the Indiana Marriage Records, 1845 - 1920 on Ancestry.com, as married July 22, 1896 in Jay Co. Indiana.
2 out of the 3 above mentioned Census' list Bert as having been born in Indiana.
Also, no records appear for a Lawrence Andrews in a search of the above-mentioned Indiana marriage records.
All too coincidental, but you never know.
If anything here sounds familiar, please reply or send an e-mail if you prefer. Thanks a bunch!
