Percy, I would LOVE to have a copy of that letter from Osiah to his brother Samuel!!Thank you so very much for the kind offer.I will contact you privately with my address.
What a small world!Samuel Palmer lived in Dalton, Ohio-- a tiny little farm community where my cousins now live!We had no idea whatsoever that our ancestors had lived there a century before.Wait till I write to the cousins to tell them they could be living on the very land once owned by our family.Unbelievable.
I knew that the infant son of Osiah Palmer was named Charles (as he was listed on the 1870 census), but I did NOT know his middle name was Lee!That is VERY interesting, because there is a family story that the Palmers had owned the land that is now Arlington Cemetery, and had sold it to Robert E. Lee after the Civil War.I wonder if that is how that baby received the middle name of Lee?The timing would make sense.
Again, thank you VERY much for contacting me!I will send write you privately immediately.Best regards,Kathy
