Two response to earlier Query!
We now need help to find what happened between 1870 & 1880 to our maternal grandmother, Maud WALLICK, born Peru, IN was reported in the 1870 census as living with William F. M. WALLICK, 30 years old, born Ohio, Carpenter, Peru Township, Elizabeth,27, born Pennsylvania, and Maud 1 born Indian! --- BUT in the 1880 census as in household of Benjamin Bank, 34, miller, included were his wife Clara, 26, housekeeping, a servant Susan Tolen, 38, assisting in housekeeping and Maud WALLICK, 11, born in Ind as were both her parents, described as being taken in to raise up.
March 1906, her daughter, our mother wrote to her "Aunt Pearl", then April 1928 when our mother died the paper reported Maud and a sister Mrs. A.W. Jacob, of Duluth, as attending funeral. The FLORA family had NO Pearl, so she must have been sister to Maud????
Did her parents abandon her ?, did they die ?, or what? I haven't learned how to search census yet, so help will be appreciated, maybe listing others in both households, or if William & Elizabeth are listed in 1880, and list of siblings.
Maud faired well, she married Dr. William Walter FLORA (a dentist), Aug 1892, in Carthage, MO, gave birth to two girls, youngest my mother. 1900 Dr. FLORA moved the family to Colorado Springs, CO for Maud's health, where she died in 1940, buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Colo. Sprs. Funeral home record gave her birth date as 21 Mar 1870 at Peru, IN, which may have been furnished by our then 47 year old aunt, only survivor of age. No relatives were mention in obit.
Help to this mystery will be greatly appreciated.
