Hi Chloe: Went back to my program and thought you might like to see what I have found so far on the Bacon family and more specifically Elizabeth Ann "Bettie" Mathews & Abijah Bacon (though it doesn't include everything on Bettie Mathews' 3rd husband Samuel Bones.) It does need to be updated somewhat (re Bettie & William Finch's likely divorce) but is dated at least by what I found by 2007.Patricia
Descendants of Moses Bacon and Catherine "Catsey" Thomas
Generation No. 1
1.MOSES1 BACON was born 1807 in South Carolina or Tennessee or (West) Virginia, and died Abt. 1860 in Indiana. He married CATHARINE "CATSEY" THOMAS 27 September 1829 in Posey Co., Indiana. She was born 1813 in Indiana or Iowa or Kentucky, and died Bet. 1880 - 1900.
Notes for MOSES BACON:
1850 cenus record as well as various responses of son Abijah indicate different birth states. Two other Bacon families, probably related, in the Posey Co., Arkansas census.
Goodspeed's History of Posey Co., Indiana, pub. 1886, p.266 notes: "Aron Bacon was one of the early settlers of Black Township; he was one of the early sheriffs of the county, having served in that office for two terms, from 1820 to 1824.There were also Edmond Bacon, Samuel and Joseph Bacon. The last named brought two slaves to this county, but as he could not keep them in slavery here they were taken South and sold.Joseph Kennedy and Samuel Kennedy were early settlers; the former was a son-in-law of Aaron Bacon."There is no mention of Moses Bacon in the book though he lived a good portion of his life in Black Twp. in Posey Co., IN.Possible that he is a son of one of the aforementioned. A check of the original marriage record for any witnesses or bondsman might be enlightening. The fact that the Bacon family had slaves indicates a more Southern heritage; though the North kept slaves, by the 1820s it was not as predominant, and rapidly on its way out.
