Okay...I'm at a brick wall and could really use some help.
Here's what I know so far.Samuel Brown...the one that I'm descended from...was born on April 30, 1807 in Tennessee. His parents were Isaac Brown and Frances Clark. They died in Buchanan Co., MO.Samuel died on Oct. 18, 1865 and is buried in the Brown Cemetery in Franklin Township.Samuel's first wife was Mary...Polly...Anderson.They had 5 children.2 of them died at birth and are buried in the Brown Cemetery.Polly Anderson Brown died on November 12, 1854 and is also buried in the Brown Cemetery.
After Polly's death, Samuel remarried.Samuel and his 2nd wife had one son...Jonathan Clark Brown. From a book titled, "1879 Atlas of Putnam County"...that was published in 1879, I found a personal history of J.C. Brown. It mentions his father's 2 marriages. In the paragraph about J.C. Brown, it mentions his mother as Lorena Whitted.I've tried posting to the Whitted Family board and haven't had any luck. So, I've gone back and looked at the information I've found again.First of all, I've found Clark Brown...he sometimes went by his middle name...in the 1870 census in Franklin Township. He is living in a house with Michael O'Connor and Lavina O'Connor.Michael is 23 and Lavina is 50.I had assumed that Lavina was his mother. Now, I'm wondering if Lavina is Michael's wife.I found an 1860 census listing for Samuel Brown. His wife's name was Leeveny.Their son Jonathan is listed too.In the 1879 atlas, if you look at a map of Franklin Township, J.C. Brown's farm is the east and north of land owned by Levena O'Connor. His biography in the book mentions that his mother is still living and at her death, he will inherit the rest of his father's estate.
In terms of her maiden name, the atlas says it is Whitted. There are some Whitted's buried in the Brown Cemetery. The atlas also shows some Whitehead's in Jackson Township.
So, does anyone know the real name of Samuel Brown's 2nd wife and Jonathan Clark Brown's mother? Is it Lorena, Lavina or Leeveny? And is it Whitted or Whitehead?
