Here is some information that may help you from NC:
We believe Etheldred came from Sampson Co., NC. Then moved to Randolph co., NC about 1800.
Sampson County, NC, Deed Book Vol 10 Volume 10, p. 243, 14 Dec 1795, Nathan Godwin, Jr; Dred Godwin, Rachel Godwin to John Dormond: 7 pounds for 46 acres "on the east side of Little Cohara and on the Mill branch beginning…near the corner of a pond. Land was a "parcel…granted to Jonathan Godwin by patent Bearing date" July 1788. Wit: Benjamin Dorman and James Beaman.
1803 Randolph County, NC, Tax List: Dreed Godwin, 100 acres, 1 wp, under Michael Harvey Esqr. List [Captain Tucker's District]
Dred Godwin married Peggy Ball 4 Nov 1806 in Randolph Co., NC.
1815 Tax List of Randolph County, NC: Etheldred Godwin, Captain Harvey's District, 100 acres on Bumpers Fort, $150, 1wp
1820 Tax List of Randolph County, NC: p. 32, Captain King's District, Dred Godwin, 100 acres on Waters Little River, $700, 1wp
Both Eltheldred and Nathan Godwin (Goddin, Godden, Godin) disappear from NC around 1830; then both of them show up in IN by 1830. I think it's more than a coincidence that both Nathan and Dred Godwin show up together in IN; therefore I believe they are the same two Godwins from NC.
Do you know where Dred and/or children are buried in IN?
