Does anyone know about a John Austin from Ripley County that served in the Civil War? There is an old cemetary in some woods behind my parent's house in Milan, and his grave is about the only legible one left. The grave has an eagle with arrows in it's talons on the top, and reads that he was 21, and died Oct. 15, 1861 while at his post. There are numerous other graves, and there are remnants of a wire fence. I did a search on a geneology site, and I found he was with the 37th regiment, company A, and his brother Wesley was in the same outfit, and died on the same day. This was all I could find. I would just like to find out about this family, and maybe help someone locate their lost relatives.
