Samuel was the son of Edward Barrett b 1740 in Dublin, Ireland and Esther Wallace Burnside, b 1763 in Augusta, VA and d 16 April 1838 in IN.Here are some of my notes on Samuel:

Of Irish descent, his father having emigrated from the Emerald Isle about 1750.He was on his way to the West Indies, but was shipwrecked and became a resident of the U.S.
Samuel was a farmer and also a minister of the Methodist Epicopal Church for 40 years.Served as a volunteer soldier under General Harrison in the War of 1812.
Settled in Rush Co., IN in 1827.In 1842 he was elected a member of the State Legislature.
