Looking for others researching the PATTON families of Sullivan County.John PATTON and Mary Ann RING were married in Vigo County in 1843 or 1845 and lived in Sullivan County until the 1860s when they moved to Kansas. There was a Thomas PATTON living right next door to John in 1850 who was possibly a brother, as both were born in Kentucky. John was born September 9, 1811, and from cemetery note, Thomas was born 1801. I believe Thomas had a son William Nelson Patton who died in 1920, age 88. I have the obituary for William Nelson Patton (b. 1832 in Sullivan County, Indiana)and find this information: William Nelson Patton married Harriet R. MAGILL in 1858 in Sullivan County. They had two sons and four daughters. One son died in infancy. The remaining children were: Bertha L. Patton who married Fred B. LASH; Clara Patton who married W.S. BALDRIDGE; Cora E. Patton who married James L. CURRY, Laura E. Patton who married David E. EVERHART; and Oscar M. Patton who married Evah Lynne BECKETTE.
John Patton named a son Nelson Monroe Patton (my gg-grandfather), so I'm wondering if the Nelson name was a family name, too.
I'm trying to locate any clues I possibly can on this Patton line.
