I'm seeking information on the location of theSt. Joseph's Orphan Asylum near LaFayette in Tippecanoe County in the 1880 census. Can anyone supply the Enumeration District and page number?
I am researching five Cannady children who were orphaned in Fort Wayne in 1877, with Bishop Joseph Dwenger filing an application for their guardianship.
In 1880 the oldest daughter was working, at age 16, as a servant in a Fort Wayne home.
Two younger daughters, ages 7 and 13, have been located in the St. Joseph's Orphan Asylum for girls near Rennselaer, Jasper County, under the care of Sister Margaret O'Neil. This institution can be found on Jasper County, Indiana (Rennselaer), ED 63, sheet 41, p. 312A, National Archives Microfilm T-9, Roll 286, or Ancestry.com: 1880, Indiana, Jasper, Marion, ED 63, image 41. These girls are listed as Emma and Flora Kannada.
It seems quite likely that the two sons, about ages 9 and 14 in 1880, would be at the St. Joseph's Orphan Asylum for boys near LaFayette, but I have been unable to find them in 1880 census indexes nor can I find the asylum itself. The use of this property as an orphanage ceased in 1887, but I believe it was in operation in 1880. Has anyone located St. Joseph's Orphan Asylum in the 1880 census?
