"WILLIAM BUEHRLE was born in Tippecanoe County, Indiana, November 17, 1840, and is on of the ten children born to MICHAEL and ELIZABETH (SCHINDLER) BUEHRLE. These children were born and named in the following order: HENRY (deceased), WILLIAM, JOSEPH (deceased), MARY (deceased), ELIZABETH, FRANK, AGATHA, MARY (second, deceased), and ROSA (deceased). The father was born in Baden; was a butcher; came to this country in time to take part in the Mexican war, and died in Seneca County, Ohio, in 1859. WILLIAM was reared in Seneca County, from the age of one until twenty-five, when he moved to Winamac (Pulaski County, Indiana), where he lived a year and a half. He then returned to Ohio; remained there two years, and then, in 1869, came to Monterey, where he is still engaged in mercantile business. In 1861, he enlisted in the Thirty-seventh Ohio Volunteer Infantry; served eleven months, and was discharged on account of a wound received at Princeton, West Virginia. He was married, February 25, 1868, to PHILOMENA RIEMEN, at Winamac. To this union were born five children - FRANK, ANNIE, JENNIE, MICHAEL and ROSA, the last named deceased. MR. BUEHRLE conducts an extensive establishment, and estimates his real estate and stock in trade as worth $8,000."
