Over the past several years there have been many posts stating that Mary Fox, daughter of Harrison and Catherine Wood Fox, ofFayette Co WV was the wife of James W. Grass; that she left her six children in Indiana to return to WV and marry Felix E. Wood; that Mary Fox was full-blood Cherokee; that the Foxes were Melungeon; that the Foxes and Woods were of African American descent.This information was given to others for inclusion in their on-line trees.A research team comprised of some Grass descendants and other interested persons undertook the task of finding the truth and proven family history.During this process, many times were subjected to unpleasant comments however truth prevailed.Some of the findings are listed below:

Further that Raney Riddle, was the first wife of James W Grass, she having been divorced from James W Grass in the year 1863;
that on July 12, 1866, James W Grass, married MARY KENNICK, whose MAIDEN name was MARY FOX;
who was my MOTHER, and she departed this life on the 2nd day of May 1898.
Further that my father belonged to Co D 71 Ind Inf.
