Is anyone working on the Flack line? I have a question about this trio.
The Flack family came to Warrick county about 1839. James was married to Rebecca and Susan was married to George Flack. I believe father George arrived with sons James and George along with the families of the boys. James and Rebecca are my great x 3 grandparents.
Rebecca died in 1878. George (son) died in 1877. Shortly after Rebecca's death Susan married brother-in-law James. Okay here's where it gets sticky. On one of the cemetery pages for Warrick county there is a tombstone inscription that this person was the adopted son of James and Susan Flack.
On another page for deaths James and Susan are listed as the adopted parents of a young man who died in 1861. All this time I've thought James and Rebecca must have divorced but according to those records James and Susan did not marry until after their respective spouse's death.
I haven't heard of any children of George and Susan so could those two boys possibly be the adopted children of George and Susan? I've tried explaining it every way I know how but something always answers it for me that there was no divorce for James and Rebecca so no way could James and Susan have adopted sons before 1878. If anyone knows the answer to this I would sure appreciate it! Thanks!
