Last Sunday Samuel Provard and his son John, living a fewmiles South of the city, "fell, onto" a young man named William Jones, and warned him pretty severely for throwing stones at the children. And then William in turn got the best of them by filing a complaint for assault and battery; as on that charge they were convicted before the mayor Tuesday morning and fined $14.40 each. The proper thing for them to have done would have been to have caged their wrath, and filed a complaint against William for malicious trespass and then he would have had to pay for it instead of them. The cool, calmlawful way is always the best, and likewise the cheapest.
William Jones who had Samuel Provard and his son arrestedfor assault and battery on his person was in turn arrested for provoking the into doing it and fined with costs $12.35
