Mrs. Mary (Van Voorst) Davis is found on page 844 of, "A Standard History of White Co., IN" published under supervision of W. H. Hamelle - 1915.
Abel Davis, b. abt 1764 in MD was the son of Benjamin & Hannah Davis of Loudoun Co, VA.This Abel lived in Monongalia Co, VA, moved to Champaign Co., OH about 1819 and on to White Co., IN in 1835 where he d. 1847.Abel of White Co., IN is my G4 grandfather.
During my research I encountered another Abel Davis b. in Chester or Bucks Co., PA who m. Sarah Griffith, daughter of Rev Timothy Griffith & wife Sarah. On the death of Rev. Timothy his wife and administrator of his Will sold the land in Pencader Hundred that encompassed IRON HILL and the Welsh Tract Baptist Church to Able and Sarah Davis. This Abel was b. 1726 in Bucks Co., PA and he & Sarah moved to DE where Abel d. in 1790 and Sarah in 1796. Due to similarity of names I have considered relationship but not been able to prove. Abel of DE had a brother, Rev. John Davis who m. Jane Van Voorst and lived out his life as Pastor of Winter Run Church in Harford Co., MD.I further discovered several Van Voorst families liviing in Whte Co., IN but have not been abel to connect them.
On finding Mary (Van Voorst> Davis in White Co. I hope to close the probable link. Permission is given GenForum to post this message in White Co. IN and New Castle Co., DE
