My mothe recently gave a copy of this letter to me. Thought all you Gibson researchers would like to read it. John Adair Gibson Paul's Valley, I.T. Sumner's Forest, Ky. September 11. 1895 Illness has prevented my replying to your most interesting letter until today. I understand now that your fathers name was John Adair Gibson and born where Nashville, Tennessee now stands, your Grandfather of course living there, that he went from S. Carolina to Tenn. Do you remember in what year? Where was your Grandfather (John) married? was it in Nashville? (No!) you say your mother was a miss Mary Lum was she (John Gibson was killed in 1789) from Miss.? Did your father marry in Miss.? Wee your parents related? You say our Uncle James Gibson married his Cousin Nellie, daughter of Sam Gibson who went to Mississippi when your Grandmother Agnes Adair Gibson went? Who was Sam Gibson? What relation to your father? Where did he go from to Miss. Was it Tenn.? Where did your Uncle James Gibson live after he was married? Are any of his decendents living? If so where? (in Fr. Bend Co. Tex. M.C.) I might find out through them who Sam Gibson was. Have you any proof our ancesters came from England to S.C.? Now, I"ll answer your questions about myself. My father was Tobias Gibson a sugar planter of Louisiana. He died in 1871. My eldest brother was Randall Lee Gibson as a young unmarried man he went through the Confederate war with distinction after the war he went to the National Congress from La. and was in the W.S. Senate when he died three years ago, & was buried in Lexington, Kentucky. My 6 brothers were in the Confederate Army. Their names were, Randall, Preston, Hart, Claude, Tobias, & McKinley. Only Hart, Tobias and myself are living and we are all livng in Kentucky. My father had 3 sisters and 4 brothers. the sisters were Martha who married Mr. Valentine, Ann married Higgins and Elizabeth Naylor. His brothers were Claudus, Ambrose, Gibbeon and William. My Grandfather was Randall Gibson and he had two brothers David and Reuben (Anne W. this Randall, David and Reuben ae Rachels brothers and the old Uncle Randall and David aunt Aggie speaks of and Reuben is Laura Forbes ancestor) (Randall David and Reuben had 6 sisters, Sarah, Elizabeth, Rachel, Edna, Cynthia, Mary and there cam Reuben Randall and David). My Great Grandfather Gibbeon Gibson who married Mary O'Connell - He was born in England, where his father died, afterward the widow married Geo. Saunders and with the 5 Gibson boys (very young) imigrated to S. Carolina. There her husband Saunders was killed by the falling of a tree and she afterwards married Malachi Murfree. Her Gibson sons were named Jordon, Gibbeon, and David. I don't know the names of the other. The decendents of Jordon and Gibbeon are living in Miss., La. and Tenn. and Texas and Ky. About what year did Sam Gibson start to Virginia for that property? Do you remember who left it? Whether an uncle, aunt of brother? My husband is dead. His family is distantly related to the Miss. Humphreys, our Humphreys are from Va. I fear you think me very inquisitive but I'm very much interested in getting a full history of the Gibson family and they have been so scattered that it is a real job to get things straight, I'm very much obliged for the information you have already given me. Very truly your kinswomman Sarah Gibson Humphreys Address me at Versailles Woodford Co. Ky. Everything in parenthesis is added by the one who copied it for me, a daughter of the one to whom it written. It is very enlightening.
