Hello all. I'm seeking the family of my gr.gr.gr.grandmother, SARAH ANN MCQUEEN, was born Sep 23 1815, reportedly in Montgomery Co., Alabama. I have absolutely no information about her family (no names, origins, etc.).
Sarah MCQUEEN married LEVIN M. CONNELLA (sometimes McConnella) abt. Jul 25 1837 in Montgomery Co., Alabama. Levin was widowed abt 1834 in Marlboro Dist., SC (ironically his first wife was also named Sarah, so sometimes it gets confusing), and moved with his children to Alabama. The children we are certain of were Alexander Argo Connella b. Jan 3 1819, d. Nov 9 1876 in Greensboro, AL (teacher, Baptist preacher); James Wright Connella b. Aug 26 1825, d. Dec 5 1845 while a student at Howard College in Marion Co., AL; and the others are not definite, possibly twins named Luther Rice and Lovett Duncan Connella, or just a son named Duncan.
After Sarah McQueen married Levin, a land record was recorded for Leven M. Connella, Aug 1837, Cahaba land office, AL. Levin also appears in the 1840 census in Pike Co., AL.
Although he was a farmer, Levin is described in a local history book as having operated a mercantile establishment in support of agriculture while living in Alabama, however, it is not clear where it was.
Sarah moved with Levin to Ouachita Parish, Louisiana abt. 1847. On Mar 20 1852, at the age of 14, their daughter, Henrietta Rebecca Connella, died of bronchitis while at the Female Academy in Demopolis, Alabama. This seems to indicate Sarah and Levin still had strong ties to AL.
I have found no indication that any of her family followed them to Louisiana. Sarah died Sep 13 1876 in Trenton, Ouachita Parish. She is buried in Hasley Cemetery.
Hopefully some of those clues will help somebody recognize Sarah's family. Feel free to email me directly with any info or suggestions. Thanks!
