Looking for more information on family of my maternal great great grandparents and daughter: Reverend Joseph Byron Wise and his wife Florence Higman and they had a least one child, possibly their only child, or who lived past infancy--Ruth Higman Wise who was my great grandmother. She was born in Russellville, Arkansas which is now in Pope County but I think the county has been split since she was born.
His ministerial ordination papers say they were notarized in Morehouse Parish on 17 May 1882 in Notary book "M" page 548.
Thanks for any help, Terri Rine Dance
1900 US Census for a town in Arkansas had Joseph Byron Wise as the census enumerator for his own area. It stated he and Florence Higman were both born in Louisiana.

I have a photocopy of Reverend Joseph Byron Wise' ordination papers which had been in the possession of my now deceased mother but the original and other family records have all apparently been "lost" by the young female relative who was on hand in that state right after her death(:0!!!
The original notarized copy of the ordination papers stating the particulars of the examination for scriptural knowledge Joseph B. Wise by "the Presbytery", his having satisfactorily passed that interview and character witnesses-- then of his setting apart by prayer and the laying on of hands by the Presbytery or elders of the El Dorado Baptist Church. Ordination and licensing of Rev. Joseph B. Wise.
Of special note in this letter is the name of one of the special Presbytery --an "Elder" G.G. Wise (I think this is a second G) as one of those examining him for fitness for the ministry.
Envelope says "Ordination papers" "J B Wise"

Thus as a church we recognize him a gospel minister fully authorized to discharge all the duties of the office by preaching the gospel and administering the ordinances of the church ?? as opportunity may be afforded.
