I failed to mention that I did get the Taylor County Marriage Booklet and the is only one Gray name in the book, no Smith names and no Walkup names. So that is not where they married.
I have sent for the other documents.I found an intersting article from the Galveston Daily News, Galveston, Texas dated 22 March 1891 relative to an Alex Gray.1880 Census Place: 3rd Ward, Union, Louisiana; Roll473; Family History Film: 1254473; Page: 472A; Enumeration District: 87; Image: 0226. Has listed John Gray, 80 years father, Alex H. Gray, Martha Gray, Elizabeth Gray and Adolphus Gray as Alex H. Gray's brother's and sisters.
You will probably remember this census because we have talked about it and keep going back to it.
What I found in this article read:
The case of Alex Gary, charged with murder, will be called in the criminal court on Tuesday, 24th, and the special....summoned in the case will be expected to be promted at that time. There is the one word I .... which I am not able to make out.I found this article at ancestry.com
What I find interesting is in the obituary of Bessie Grey Smith's husband Spencer Clifford Smith, in the Roswell Daily Record, May 16, 1927 next to it is an article about a Mrs. Snyder and Gray in Prison Sing Sing Now Awaiting Death. The name of the Gray is Henry Judd Gray.
I have not idea if there is a connection, but is it possible that Alex H. Gray in the above census had the middle name Henry and that this Henry Judd Gray is somewhere in his posterity?
I am about to go nuts trying to connect the piece in this family.I am beginning to wonder if there is a skeleton which was not discussed. In my mother's family there is one such and it took me years (and she is living) to get the facts.Even at that I had to write to San Quentin and get the records. My mother will never know the extent of her brother's crimes as long as I am alive. Her brother had a son who also was in prison on petty crime in Kansas. Skipped bail and came to Arizona where there was family. He ended up serving a lot of time for that one.He ultimately committed suicide and it was through court criminal record which I had to write for that I found he even had a family.
So there are skeletons and I am wondering if there is one in the family of Bessie Grey.Like I said her name on the death cert is listed as Grey, but the obitiary her name is Bessie Gray Smith.
Many answers have come to question and more have surfaced. If only I could find where they married and possibly Alex H. Gray death cert.
I sure appreciate your help and letting me bounce this off of you.
