I have compiled everything I have found so far and I am listing it below.I saw some different names for children as well, but I also saw that some people had the same children's names for an Allen Davis Ratcliff and an Abner Ratcliff. The dates and geography did not match. You can see the initials for the A. D. Ratcliff children I am searching for on the 1850 Census below.
Allen D. Ratcliff1805-1880
1805 --Born in North Carolina -this birth date is noted on the 1850 Concordia Parish, Louisiana, Census for an A. D. Ratcliff;on the 1860 Concordia Parish, La. Census for A. D. Ratcliff;on the 1870 Chicot County, Arkansas, Census for A. D. Ratcliff;and the 1880 Chicot County, Arkansas, Census for A. D. Ratcliff.
1826 – Amite County, Mississippi – There is a marriage record for Allen D. Ratcliff and Blendia B. Davis forOctober, 1826.(Not sure if this is just a misspelling of the name Belinda, but that is what the record shows.)
1833 – Catahoula Parish, Louisiana – The Catahoula Parish Conveyance Records, Book C, item #845C on page 135 states that Allen D. Ratcliff purchased a slave from a Thomas Humble.
1840 – Census for Catahoula Parish, Louisiana – for A. D. Ratcliff –
1 male 30-39 – A. D.
1 male under 5
1 male 5-9
1 male 10-14
1 female under 5
1 female 5-9
1 female 20-29 (which would correspond to
wife Blendia Davis)
1844 -Marriage record in New Orleans, Louisiana, Daily Picayune on June 13, 1844:“On Tuesday, the 4th inst.at Louisville, Kentucky, by the Rev. Thomas J. Fisher, Mr.
A.D. Ratcliff, merchant of Harrisonburg, Louisiana, to Miss Eliza. M., daughter of Samuel Dupuy, Esq., of Shelbyville, Kentucky.”[This would indicate that first wife Blendia Davis has died or they have divorced.]
1850 – Census for the Western District of Concordia Parish, Louisiana – this census lists names and ages as follows:
A. D. Ratcliff, age 45, born in 1805 North Carolina, occupation Planter
Eliza M., age 42 , born in Kentucky (This would not be the same age bracket as the female age 20-29 in 1840 Census – In 1840, Eliza would have been in the 30-39 range)
J. D. – female, age 20 ( would be the female 5-9 from 1840)
F. D. – female, age 15 (would be the female under 5 from 1840)
D. F. – male , age 14(would be the male 10-14 from 1840)
T. W. – male, age 9(would be born after the 1840 Census in 1841 – before Blendia died and before A. D. married Eliza)
Note:The"1 male under 5" and "1 male 5-9" in the 1840 Census are missing from the 1850 Census.Perhaps they and their mother died at the same time – maybe yellow fever?
1850 – Federal Slave Census for Concordia Parish, Louisiana -A. D. Ratcliff is shown as having 14 slaves
1860 – Census for Ward 6, Concordia Parish, Louisiana – Listing:
A. D. Ratcliff – age 55, born 1805 in North Carolina – occupation Farmer
E.M.– female – age 53, born 1807 in Kentucky

A. D. Ratcliff owns 32 slaves

A. D. Ratclif – age 64, born in North Carolina – no occupation listed
Eliza – age 62, born in Kentucky
F. Hawkins – black female – age 10 – born in 1860
1880 – Census for Louisiana District, Chicot County, Arkansas –Listing:
A. D Ratcliff, born in North Carolina, occupation Merchant
Eliza, born in Kentucky
I am particularly interested in determining the name of the T.W. listed in the 1840 Census.I am looking for a William Thomas Ratcliff, born in 1841 inCatahoula Parish. The initials from 1850 could stand for Thomas William and were perhaps just transposed on the Census.(Names spelled out would have been great and perhaps saved me a great deal of time !)
I hope someone will recognize these facts.
