I am so glad I found this on the forum. I have seen the notices on RootsWeb and have been interested in this, because I have a James M. Patterson who married my great aunt. The age of your James M. Patterson is right. My James M. Patterson married Laura Ella Gentry (born ca 1869/1870) in Alexandria, Rapides Parish, LA June 13, 1886. She is listed with her mother Temperance Cotton Gentry on the 1880 Rapides Parish, LA census (also in Cotile, Ward 7). I am fairly certain this is my Patterson; however, I have never been able to trace them any farther in Louisiana, Texas, nor in any other state. I also found the James M. Patterson's grave on Find A Grave in Morehouse Parish, L, and that does appear to be him. It is entirely possible Laura Ella died sometime after their marriage in 1886 and he remarried. I have been unable to find either wifes' graves.
Please contact me with any info at email@example.com. I have had this brick wall for a very long time. Laura Ella had two half brothers, John and Jefferson Hunt, brothers Thomas L. Gentry, Allen Gentry, and sisters Mary Alice Gentry (who married John Walker), Amanda Jane Gentry who married Sanders Russell, and my great grandmother, Elizabeth L. Betsy Gentry who married secondly James Claude Stewart. The problems I have had with this family are the two sisters, Amanda Jane and Laura Ella. I simply do not know where they went. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
