I see online that Louisiana has a closed birth certificate policy which I'm not sure I understand when it comes to maybe ordering ancestors certificates for genealogical purposes.
My grandfather, as far as I know, died in Caddo Parish 1934. Is is possible for a descendant to order his Certificate of Death from Louisiana? If so what department? What is the fee charges?
Also, to muddy the water even more, my grandfathers second wife/widow, on the 1940 Caddo Parish Census, was enumerated in Shreveport as widow but also had a seven year old enumerated as "Daughter" in the household. This daughter would have been born about the same time that my grandfather died.
This daughter, being my half aunt, that no one in my family has ever heard about until the 1940 US Census hit the www. Thus her enumeration on the 1940 is a total surprise to the family. We being the family of the first wife.
Questions: Is it possible for me, living in another state, to order the birth certificate of my half aunt through the state of Louisiana? My half aunt would be about 80 y/o if still living.
Is it possible for me to order a CoD of my grandfather from the State of LA?
My grandfathers widow was found later in the 1947 City Directory of Gulfport, Mississippi but obviously no mention of the daughter in the notes of her address in the directory.
