I am seeking burial site(s) for William Monaghan, his wife (Miss Harrison), and daughter-in-law, Jane Monaghan.
Here is the sketchy information I have. 1.William Monaghan immigrated to the United States in 1818.In 1849 in New Orleans he became a U.S. Citizen.Part of his application included a minor's petition, so he had a child (or children) who was a minor in 1849 or just earlier, name of child unknown. If he had a child whom he was recognizing, he was probably married and I know his wife to be Miss __ Harrison, daughter of James Harrison of Church Hill, Castleblayney, County Monaghan, Ireland.James died in 1796, so Miss Harrison was born by 1797.The Harrison family was Presbyterian. The Monaghans had a daughter-in-law, Jane, born 1802, so perhaps the Monaghans were born 1770s.I do not know when Mr. and Mrs. William Monaghan died.A William Monaghan did write a letter about a commission in 1854, so if these was he, then he was alive to write it.I do not know when his wife died.I am looking for the grave site and cemetery for these two Monaghans, who had previously lived in Orleans Parish, New Orleans.
2. Mrs.Jane __ Monaghan was the daughter-in-law of the William Monaghan, above. Her husband, Gilbert Monaghan, may have returned without her to Ireland, maybe 1842.I do not know that he ever lived in New Orleans and he and his wife had moved around a great deal in Albany, Argyle, and Smithville, New York state, NYC, and South Carolina. After Gilbert left his family for Ireland, Jane ran a boarding house in Smithville, New York, then came to New Orleans, where her daughter, Mary Jane Monaghan Brownlee and James D. Brownlee lived (from at the very least 1854 through 1880).In St. Helena Parish (pop. 604 today) north of New Orleans, Jane wrote her will. She died "in New Orleans," near (with) the Brownlees who were of Orleans parish.Jane Monaghan was NOT buried in St. Helena Parish.Where was she buried?Next place to link is Orleans parish, but how to search cemeteries of Orleans parish?(Not in Find A Grave yet.)
Thank you for reading this and for any information about gravesides in Orleans parish.
