Cecil O'neil Bruce
Cecil O'neil Bruce, age 87, of Plymouth, died peacefully, February 12, 2009, at the Sharon S. Richardson Hospice Center, Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, with his loving family at his side.
Cecil was born June 14, 1921, in Millsap Texas, son of the late James and Mabel (Brewer) Bruce. He grew up with his brothers James and sisters Josephine "Jo" and LaVerne.
Cecil married the former Marie N. Linstedt of Plymouth, and together they enjoyed a union that lasted over 67 years.
With World War II looming, Cecil joined the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving his country in the Asiatic Pacific and Iceland until 1944.
After the war, the Bruces lived in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where they raised their four children, Lawrence, Jennifer, Kenneth, and Peggy. Cecil's career at American Motors Corporation spanned over 30 years. In 1980, the couple retired to Plymouth, Wisconsin, Marie's hometown.
Cecil was a quiet, hardworking man, who looked at life's challenges with a smile. He had a lifelong passion for hunting and fishing, and spent many happy times with family and friends in Northern Wisconsin, Montana, and Wyoming. He was a jack-of-all-trades and had the ability to fix just about anything. Through the years, he was known as an avid beekeeper and gardener, and especially enjoyed sharing his hobbies with friends and family.
Cecil is survived by his loving wife Marie; their four children, daughters, Jennifer Bruce and Peggy Cupp, Plymouth; sons, Lawrence (Mary) Bruce and Kenneth (Virginia) Bruce, Pleasant Prairie; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. A sister, LaVerne Karr, Oklahoma City, several nephews and extended family in both Oklahoma and Texas further survive him.
His parents, his brother James and sisters Josephine Burgoon and Vita Bruce, and his son-in-law Charles Cupp preceded him in death.
A private family service will be held at Wittkopp-Schneider Funeral Home in Plymouth. The Rev. Richard York, Pastor of Christian Life Assembly of God will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenbush Cemetery. The Plymouth V.F.W. Post #5612 will conduct military honors.
