The 1725 church marriage record of Jean Thoms LESCH [LEGER] as abstracted by the the Archdiocese of New Orleans in Volume 1 of their set of books lists the wife of Thomas as Anne SCHODERBECKEN. The marriage is recorded in the registers of St Louis Church in New Orleans. Anne is stated to be a native of "the Duchy of Virtemberg" and her parents are listed as Jean George, deceased, and Anne [no surname given]. Other church record abstracts refer to her as Marie or Marie Anne and some records list the family surname as SCLAUTERBEKEN, BEEKEN, PAQUINNE, or PEKINE. Her sister, Anne Marie, in her 1727 marriage to Philippe Jaque TZAN, is listed as Anne Marie Schlotter BEEKEN.
The Germanic names of the early settlers were butchered by the French scribes and this particular surname appears not to have been an exception.
