I have a copy of the 1820 census from the City of New Orleans. There are several abbreviations used at the beginning of many of the records. I believe that they refer to the race of the idividual ennumerated. I also believe that I know what two of them refer to: FMC seems to indicated that the person was a free male of color. FCN seems to mean that the person was a free female of color.
The two that I can't figure out are HDCL & FDCL. I would appreciate any tips on these two.
