I am looking for information on Caroline Coughlan, b. Abt. 1840 in Ireland, who was in Worcester C.A. (State Hospital?), Worcester, MA, in the 1880 census. My husband's half-great-uncle, Edward Ehman, was in Tewksbury Almshouse in 1881 and the record shows his mother is in Worcester C.A.It has been suggested that C.A. stands for County Asylum. The only Caroline in Worcester State Hospital who is the right age in 1880 is Caroline Coughlan.Edward's father, Benedict Ehmann, remarried in 1877 and took the rest of the family to Texas.I found Edward remained in Deer Island Truant School in 1880, then Tewksbury in 1881.I had thought his mother deceased until I saw the Tewksbury record. If this is Caroline Ehman, could she have reverted to her maiden name when he divorced her?Any info or suggestions on how to proceed here would be greatly appreciated.
